Tokyo Shikyoren Senshu Kakushu Gakko Branch (Federation of Private School Teachers and Staffs Unions) was formed
in 1949. Shikyoren is part of the second largest union in Japan. It is under the Zenkyo and Zenroren labor
unions. Some other employees of ASIJ are already members of this union. (Two other unions are also represented
on campus.)
The cost
to join is 500 yen, with monthly dues calculated as follows: There are 14 payments per year (bonus system in Japan)
and each payment is 650 yen + .006 * (1/14th) of basic salary. Membership dues may be paid monthly, quarterly, etc.
Although it is hoped that a person would join the union for a year, there is no minimum number of months for membership--it
can be for as little as one month.
